Teacher

Welcome to my class!

For those who don't know me, my name is Sav Proulx (or Mme. Sav), teaching grade 7 Early French Immersion. I'm looking forward to having you all in my class!

I take this opportunity to introduce you to my three partners in crime:

  • Bowie (grey), a cute little cat full of sass who will do anything to eat the food off your plate
  • Moony (black), a quirky little monster who cannot sit still for more than 3 seconds.
  • Nova, highly protective and attentive, always on the job to keep us all safe

For those who don't know me, my favourite things are cows, books, video games and my pets. Bring up any topic in those areas and I will be ready to chat for hours.

Can't wait for a fun and adventurous year!

Class Procedures

1.        Cell phones & electronic devices.

  • SD33 had mandated a new Cell Phone Policy, meaning cellphones will be dropped off in a locked box in the classroom and picked up at the end of the day. This will not be optional, and students who are found with their phones will have them confiscated, brought to the office, to be picked up by a parent at the end of the day.

2.      Turn in assignments to the proper bin

  • Assignments are given specific due dates, and some will not be accepted after the due date. Keep up with these assignments on the website under "Weekly Plans". Handing in assignments must be by the end of day on their due dates to be graded.

3.      Tardies

  • Excessive tardies will affect your learning readiness grade and will result in assignments brought home to catch up on personal time.

4.      Pick up after yourself before you leave

  • Take all of your belongings, stack your chair, pick up any scrap papers around you, and put your desk back in line before you leave each day. I am your teacher, not your parent. I do not clean up after you.

5.     Get missed work by checking the class website.

  • If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain any missed classwork.  Begin by checking the website “Weekly Plan” tab for what you missed. Then, look for missed handouts in the ABSENT bin. Then ask another student what you missed. If you check with the me, I will simply guide you to doing the following steps.
  • Plan to take quizzes and tests immediately.  It is your responsibility to make these arrangements, I will not and cannot track you down.
  • It is not a parents job to check in or email the teacher for any class work. It is also not the teacher's job to run after each students to make sure each assignment is caught up. The website provides all necessary assignments as files in order to download and print or to complete on lined paper.
  • Students needs to have the completed assignments handed in on due dates regardless of absence. Absence does not excuse incompleted work and should not be followed up the next day with "I don't know what we're doing, I wasn't here."

6.     Bathroom Breaks

  • Use lunch time and break time for going to the bathroom. However, if you must go during class, make sure it is at a time where no guidelines or teaching is being done.
  • Procedure for bathroom break is as follows: ask teacher permission, grab student Hall Pass and return the pass to retrieve phone.

7.     Conflicts and Assignments

  • In middle school, it is the student's responsibility to take charge of their work, conflicts and questions.
  • Agenda's and the website are used to keep assignments and due dates and it is the student's job to make sure they are followed. Monthly Completion Checklists will be sent to parents as well as a Monthly Update but it is the student's job to make sure that assignments are done and there are no issues.
  • When a conflict happens, it is students' responsibility to come to the teacher to discuss them. Everything is easier handled when the student gives their perspective and it is not student to parent to teacher. Help students build conflict resolution by having them come forward and share what happened so things can be handled right away and not later.
